What Will People Think?

Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you will see God’s glory if you believe?” John 11:40

Overall, we have an exaggerated sense of self. We worry about what we will wear, serve, say, give, do, and contribute. We worry because our eyes are on ourselves.

I don’t see Jesus calling up Peter and John and asking, “So, what are you going to wear to the wedding today?” I don’t see him running around frantically worrying about what he is going to serve for dinner—and he had some big dinner parties. Remember when he fed five thousand men and their families from two fish and some bread?

He didn’t even worry when it seems he should have been worried, like when he was on a boat in the middle of a storm. He wasn’t worried; he slept!

He wasn’t even stressed about not being there when Lazarus, one of his best buddies, died. Everyone was stressed, but when Jesus arrived, he wanted to see the tomb and asked them to remove the stone. Lazarus’s sister Martha was concerned and stressed about what the smell would be like, since her brother had been in the tomb four days. But Jesus looked at her and said, “Didn’t I tell you that you will see God’s glory if you believe?” (John 11:40).

When we worry, all we see is the circumstance, and all others see in us is stress. But when we believe in God despite the circumstances, we see the glory of God.
