The Five Senses
The Five Senses
Read Ephesians 5:1-9
Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. Ephesians 5:2
Use your five senses to make the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures of the Bible real to you.
Look through the Bible and note the smells, like Jesus being called “the Rose of Sharon.”
Gather up a few tasty treats from the Song of Solomon, and then buy a recording of Hebrew music.
Create a night to remember by renting a travel video of the Holy Land, or watch the slide show of a friend who has been there. Create a whole evening using the sights and sounds of Israel.
I have a crown of thorns placed high on my favorite bookshelf as a reminder of the price Christ paid for me. This visual reminder in such a prominent place helps me carry that picture wherever I go.
I have a list going of things I’d love to have that would be similar reminders, like an alabaster vial with perfume in it. The verses that describe the woman who broke her costly vial of perfume, valued at over a year’s salary, because of her deep appreciation of Christ’s work in her life always moves me to tears because I feel the same.
Ephesians 5:2 reminds me that Jesus was broken and his blood spilled, and it captures my heart. What captures yours?
