Mentor Me

Teach the wise, and they will be wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn more. Proverbs 9:9

When you are looking for someone to mentor you, what should she be teaching you and holding you accountable to? “Teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God” (Titus 2:3-5, NIV).

Since we are “older” compared to some and “younger” compared to others, let’s look at all the traits listed here in Titus 2:3-5:

• Reverent: holy, sacred character that is fitting to a person consecrated to God
• Not a slanderer: not defaming or maligning
• Not addicted: not under bondage or controlled by anything
• Loves husband and children: sacrificing for the good of loved ones
• Self-controlled: self-disciplined
• Pure: discreet and chaste
• Busy at home: working to keep your home a priority of your heart
• Kind: sympathetic and helpful
• Subject to husband: choosing to rank yourself under his leadership

Is the person you are mentoring being trained in these? Are you asking a woman to mentor you so your character matches this list? What trait on this list would you most like to grow in? Ask someone good at that trait to mentor you.
