It’s Time!

God set another time for entering his place of rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David a long time later in the words already quoted: “Today you must listen to his voice. Don’t harden your hearts against him.” Hebrews 4:7

When a person is ready to respond to God, she asks questions and seeks out people who want to talk about God and the deeper issues of life. God draws people to himself for salvation.

It’s important that you act when someone you know is seeking God. Assume it is a “God moment” if the person wants to stay after a meeting to talk about God or if she asks you to go to lunch when she has rebuffed prior invitations. Clear your schedule to help someone enter the Kingdom. Most of us pray and pray for our family and friends to respond to God, but when they don’t meet our time schedule, we feel inconvenienced. We should feel trusted and chosen instead!

In the same way, when a person is being stirred by God, he or she is excited, animated, or deeply introspective—not bland or benign. When you are sensing God wants you to pull away, study, pray, or listen, do it!

God has a “today” for salvation, a “today” for his leading. He appoints moments; they are not random. Hebrews 4:7 says, “That time is today.”

The main point of this Scripture isn’t just to mention that God has end-time moments set, but rather God has moments that require our response “now.”

To wait is to callous your heart, making it harder for God to get your attention next time.
