Hello!

If you return to the Lord, your relatives and your children will be treated mercifully by their captors, and they will be able to return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful. If you return to him, he will not continue to turn his face from you. 2 Chronicles 30:9

“Rise up, you women who are at ease, and hear my [Isaiah’s] voice; give ear to my word, you complacent daughters” (Isaiah 32:9, NASB).

This verse was written thousands of years ago, but it could have easily been penned on a PC yesterday. Isaiah was trying to get the attention of the women in his world, where things were bad and getting worse. He thought if the female gender joined in, things might get better!

What were the women doing? They were “at ease” and “complacent.”

What was going on in their world? Isaiah wrote to move the people back to God. He was especially concerned about the morality of the nation’s leadership, both politically and spiritually.

The book’s opening gives a picture of the state of the people who claimed God as their own: “Hear, O heavens! Listen, O earth! This is what the Lord says: ‘The children I raised and cared for have turned against me. Even the animals—the donkey and the ox—know their owner and appreciate his care, but not my people Israel. No matter what I do for them, they still do not understand’ ” (1:2-3).

These people were so far from God they didn’t even recognize him anymore! What is going on in your world?
