Angel Party!

Angel Party!

Read Psalm 145:1-7

Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy of your righteousness. Psalm 145:7

God can really throw a party. The angels in heaven rejoice when even one sinner decides to turn to God (Luke 15:10).

Our family has chosen to follow God’s example, and we look for ways to celebrate. One of the ways we celebrate is by hosting “angel parties.” We first began angel parties when our children made decisions for Christ. And now we also have angel parties to celebrate when anyone in our family introduces someone to Jesus. Early on I had the boys cut out angel pictures and add angel stickers and stamps so they each could make a personal angel placemat for the celebrations. Then we laminated the works of art. We would eat angel food cake, talk about the special moment that was being celebrated, and relive it in conversation.

As the boys have gotten older, they’ve outgrown the cute placemats, and none of them really loves angel food cake. Now we have the person in charge of the celebration choose the food or the place to eat out, and the celebration continues in a more grown-up form.

The style of the angel party may have evolved over the years, but the principle of celebration is seared into our children’s minds. Each child in our family knows: It is important that people know God, and knowing God is a reason to celebrate!
