Witness

We are Christ’s ambassadors, and God is using us to speak to you. We urge you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, “Be reconciled to God!”

2 Corinthians 5:20

When I visit Washington DC, I like to drive past embassies of ambassadors from other countries. The architectural designs of the buildings reflect the countries that are represented.

Ambassadors are diplomatic officers of high rank who represent one nation in the capital of another, skillfully acting on behalf of their government. Although bound by instructions and beliefs from their homeland, ambassadors exercise considerable authority with discretion. For ambassadors to be effective, they must act acceptably in the receiving country.

When we enter into a relationship with God, we too become ambassadors with a message. As mothers, we are ambassadors first to our children, and they live in the “embassy” along with us—the embassy of our home. If God’s Spirit is present in our lives, they will see whom we represent. The message we have been given is that through Christ we can have a relationship with God. When humans rebelled against God, we became his enemies, but God provided a way for us to be forgiven through Jesus’ death on the cross. When we see our need for God, desire a relationship with him, and turn to Christ, he takes away our guilt and gives us his righteousness.

Our responsibility is to represent God as tactfully as we can because we are messengers of peace. Our daily briefing on God’s plan for the world comes through the time we spend in his Word. We represent the King of kings, and our homes are embassies. What a privileged position we hold.
