Salvation

Salvation

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

Isaiah 1:18, NIV

I’m grateful that God has presented us with images in the Bible that we can easily understand—images like darkness, light, fire, and water. Think, for example, about color. If I were to say, “Black . . . red . . . white . . . green . . . gold” slowly enough, you would be able to visualize each of those colors in your head.

God’s use of color in the Bible was one of the seeds that brought me to Christ as a young child. Most people who decide to follow Christ make that decision over a period of time, after a series of seeds are planted in their heart. That’s the way it was for me. My parents talked about my need for Christ, and I read about Christ’s death and resurrection in the Bible. The seed involving color was planted when one of my Sunday school teachers demonstrated my need for Christ with a simple song and a wordless book:

My heart was black with sin until the Savior came in [black for sin].

His precious blood, I know [red for blood] has washed it white as snow [white for cleansing].

And in his Word I’m told [green for growth] I’ll walk the streets of gold [gold for heaven],

What a wonderful, wonderful day—He washed my sins away.

As mothers, we plant seeds of God’s truth in our children’s minds while we pray for their hearts. One of my pastors, Chris Castaldo, says, “We prayerfully and intentionally cooperate with God and others in sharing redemptive truth, with a view to leading unbelievers one step closer to Jesus Christ.” I’m thankful for simple images like color that God uses to help us see our need for salvation.

Father,

Thank you that in your good plan, Jesus gave his life to free us from sin. Help us to make the most of the opportunities you give us to plant seeds of faith in others’ lives. Amen.
