Praise

O Lord, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.

Psalm 104:24

Early this morning I praised God while I watched a sand crab. I had just completed an early morning walk along the oceanfront where my family is vacationing, and as I was sitting in the sand, I noticed some movement out of the corner of my eye. Looking closer, I discovered a sand crab about four or five inches in diameter with two beady eyes sticking up from the rest of its body. The crab came up out of its hole, pushed some sand out, and then sat there awhile looking at me, eventually going back underground. The routine was repeated several more times until I got up to leave.

As I watched the sand crab, I thought about how many fascinating creatures God has created. Since I am a finite creature, I can only be in one place at a time to enjoy his creation. The creatures I could see this morning included sand crabs, jellyfish, and seagulls. But God is omnipresent, able to be everywhere at once, so he can see all the creatures in the world at the same time!

When I praise God for how wonderful and big he is, my perspective changes. I’m reminded how dependent I am on him, and I’m also reminded that if he is big enough to have created and sustained the sand crab in Gulf Shores, Alabama; the giraffe in Tanzania; and the panda in China, he’s big enough to take care of me.

Thank you that you can be everywhere at once, watching over all your creation, and still care about us and our families. We’re encouraged to run to you anytime, anywhere. Amen.
