Mothers And Wives

Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.

Perhaps some of you are reading today’s devotional while you’re nursing an infant. As you hold that small gift from God in your arms, it’s hard to imagine that he or she might begin walking in about a year. And it’s almost impossible to imagine that your child—in twenty-some years—might graduate from college and begin a career. But they often do, and it’s never too early for a mom to begin praying about her children’s future plans.

When our oldest son, Chad, was a senior in college, my husband and I were excited to see how God would provide a job for him. One of his college classmates, Rachel, went to church with a partner in an engineering firm who asked, “Do you know any responsible engineering majors who are graduating from your college?” Several weeks and an interview later, Chad had his first job with Sargent and Lundy.

During Nate’s senior year of college, he was invited to go home to Atlanta, Georgia, with his friend Nate Zacharias. Nate’s dad, Ravi, is a Christian apologist and speaker. At the time our Nate visited, Ravi was looking for an assistant to travel with him as he spoke around the world. Toward the end of the weekend, Ravi offered Nate the job, and he accepted. Nate has since shared in some amazing ministries in many different countries around the globe.

As we look back at God’s provisions for Chad and Nate, we are no less grateful today than we were at the time God provided. We praise him for the way his mighty power accomplishes his purposes in our children’s lives—and we continue praying.

Father,

Thank you for specific glimpses of your mighty power. We pray that you will continue to work out your plans in our lives and in our children’s lives. In the powerful name of Jesus, amen.
