The Certainty Of God’s Promises

One night Joseph had a dream and promptly reported the details to his brothers, causing them to hate him even more. Genesis 37:5

God communicated clearly his blueprint for Joseph’s life. Speaking to him through dreams, God delivered the plan with such clarity that Joseph felt compelled to tell his brothers and father about it.

Joseph’s dreams and his decision to tell his family about them marked the beginning of the hardest journey of his life. The message of the dreams was very clear, but it wasn’t what his family wanted to hear. God had shown Joseph special favor, and his brothers, who hated Joseph anyway, did not like it. They betrayed him, sold him into slavery, deprived him of numerous well-deserved rewards.

The dreams clearly showed Joseph that he would rule over his family—in that culture, a privilege reserved for the oldest son.

But since the dreams were from God, there was no way that circumstances could stop them from becoming reality. The world said that Joseph was underprivileged—his family was made up of shepherds, not kings. The world treated him like a victim, not a ruler. Joseph’s life circumstances turned from bad to worse, but the dream was still clear.

The message of Joseph’s dreams was clear because it had come directly from God. The circumstances of his life, on the other hand, had come from the world. God’s plan would ultimately win out over the circumstances.

While the circumstances of your life may not always seem to line up with God’s plan, nothing on earth can compete with a God-given promise.

The path to making your dream a reality may be dark and strenuous, but you can rest assured knowing that God has a plan for you and that he always keeps his promises.
