Nothing To Lose

The arrogance of all people will be brought low. Their pride will lie in the dust. The Lord alone will be exalted! Isaiah 2:17

Glenn prided himself on having a higher energy level and a more positive attitude than the average person. But three failed marriages and the death of his only son at the age of thirteen had drained him. The pain and emptiness of his daily existence was dulled only by the numbness in his heart.

Glenn probably could have kept up the facade if one of his associates, Judy, hadn’t asked him the question, “Why don’t you give Jesus a chance? What do you have to lose?” The question brought the disappointment and confusion of his life rushing to the surface. He couldn’t sleep. He couldn’t concentrate. He couldn’t escape the haunting reality that he had nothing to lose because he had gained none of what he really wanted in life.

One quiet night, he asked Jesus to forgive him and come live in his heart.

As Glenn was praying one day, a thought stuck in his heart. I need to go back to school and get my teaching credentials. It seemed to him a crazy thought for a man in his fifties, but he enrolled anyway because he had nothing to lose.

Glenn never dreamed that he would discover his real purpose in life through the interviews at the end of the teaching program. His move to Colombia to teach English-speaking students turned out to be the door to the only career he ever loved and the path to the only woman who truly captured his heart.

Glenn found his life when he realized he had nothing to lose.
