A Life Of Faithfulness

God said to Noah, “. . . Make a boat from resinous wood and seal it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior.” Genesis 6:13-14

Things had gotten bad on earth—really bad. Evil had become the norm, and people’s lives were corrupt in every way imaginable.

Noah’s family was in danger, but his obedience to God would be the path to safety for all of them. It would require long-term obedience. The ark could not be built overnight, and it couldn’t be built in a single act. The future of Noah’s sons and their families was in his hands.

The command to “make a boat” was given very quickly, but it would require a lifetime to accomplish. In one short command, God had called Noah to a life of faithfulness.

Often a single decision can lay out the path for the rest of your life. God wants to meet you on the path of your career. He understands that your career decisions have lifelong implications. He understands that you must set your heart to do your work well and that you must put in a lifetime of days to make that happen.

If you have already made your career choice, ask yourself how God wants to meet you in the midst of your work. When you respond to him, God will transform your faithfulness into the care and safety of those you value most. Your financial contribution will provide opportunity for their growth. Your example will teach them the diligence they need for their future. Your stability will become the norm for them.

If you haven’t made your career choice yet, ask God to reveal his plan for you. Ask him what career he wants your faithfulness in so that you can provide a safe future for those you love and a platform from which to serve him.

In short, don’t just work a job, “make a boat.”

Lord, in the midst of my career, show me the value of faithfulness to you.
