The Lost Five-dollar Bill
The Lost Five-Dollar Bill
Read Luke 11:9-13
“Roberto, will you come here, please?” called Mom. Roberto put his favorite video game down and hurried to the kitchen. “I need you to run an errand for me,” said Mom. “Take this money across the street to Lupe’s house, please. Her mother is going to buy some bread for us when she goes to the store.”
It was cold outside, and small flakes of snow were flurrying past the window. Roberto put on his coat, pulled the collar up around his neck, and pulled on his mittens. Then he took the five-dollar bill she handed him and started out the door.
As Roberto reached the other side of the street, a strong gust of wind took the money from his mittened hand. The five-dollar bill landed somewhere in the hedge in front of Lupe’s house. Roberto hurried over to the hedge. When he couldn’t find the money, he sat down and buried his face in his hands.
“What’s wrong?” asked Mom as Roberto looked up to see her heading toward him.
“I’m sorry, Mom. I lost the money,” said Roberto. “It should be right in these bushes, but I can’t find it.”
“I’ll help you,” said Mom, “and let’s pray that God will help us, too. We can do that while we look.” She smiled at Roberto. “You can talk to God anywhere and anytime, you know. He always listens.”
They began to search, and a few minutes later Roberto exclaimed, “Look! God answered our prayers. The five-dollar bill is stuck right here in the leaves!”
How about you?
Do you think to pray throughout the day whenever you need God’s help? You can talk to him anytime and know that he hears you. It doesn’t matter where you are or what your problem is. God just wants you to remember to pray.
Memorize:
“Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9
