Faster Than A Telegram

Read Psalm 139:1-3, 13-18

Ding dong! Chase looked up at the sound of the doorbell. “Please answer the door, Chase,” his mother called out. She and Melissa, Chase’s sister, were putting the finishing touches on his birthday cake.

“Mom! There’s a clown at the door!” hollered Chase a moment later. “Come and see! Hurry!”

“Well, well, Mr. Clown, what brings you here?” asked Mom, coming into the room, a smile on her face.

“Hi, there!” said the clown. “You must be the Bennett family. I’m Kevin the Clown, and I’m looking for a Mister Chase Bennett who is six years old today!”

“Wow! That’s me! I’m Chase!” exclaimed Chase in surprise.

“Here, Chase. These are for you,” said the clown, holding out a huge bunch of brightly colored balloons. “And now I have a singing telegram for you.” The clown began to sing. “Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! God bless you today—and all the year through!” Chase, Melissa, and Mom clapped and laughed when the song was done.

Later Chase told his dad all about it. “That clown knew it was my birthday today,” he said, still amazed at what happened.

Dad smiled. “Isn’t that something!” he said. “I guess someone told him about you. But you know what? There’s someone who knew it was your birthday today without being told. In fact, he knew it was going to be your birthday today even before you were born. Do you know who that is?”

“I know!” Chase exclaimed. “You’re talking about Jesus!”

“That’s right, Chase,” agreed Dad. “He knows all about you, and he loves it when you keep in touch with him. Best of all, you don’t even need a phone or telegram to do that. You can just pray—just talk to him anytime.”

Do you wonder if God thinks about you? Do you wonder if sometimes he’s too busy to know what’s happening to you? Not God! You’re always in his thoughts, and you’re someone very special to him. He’ll never forget you or be too busy to meet your needs!
