Who’da Thunk It?
Who’da Thunk It?
“There is hope for your future,” says the LORD.
Jeremiah 31:17
I don’t know about you, but I am constantly astounded by the futuristic advancements in technology. If you had told me when I was in high school that I would be using something called a computer, I would have thought you had fallen off your rocker. At that time, I was working on an old Royal Standard typewriter. (If you’re under forty years old, go ask your mother about those.)
Since then I’ve progressed with every kind of typewriting equipment imaginable—electric typewriters, Selectric typewriters, computers with one-line screens, computers with five-line screens, computers with full screens—and now I have a MacBook Pro with a twenty-five-inch monitor that does everything but cook lunch.
For years when I traveled, I had to take my Day-Timer, my phone book, my camera, my calculator, my laptop, and my phone. It was like moving. Now I just plop my iPhone into my belt holder and take off. Life is definitely easier for me today because of technology. Somehow, though, I’m still in amazement mode at what might be coming next.
It makes me think of the old mountaineer who was on his way to a nearby town. He decided to use the new highway that had just been completed. Just as he was about to steer his horse onto the road, an automobile whizzed past at sixty miles per hour. The old man had never before seen one of those newfangled machines, so he stopped and, openmouthed, stared after it.
Scarcely a minute had passed when, following in hot pursuit, came a motorcycle cop who flashed by. The old man was amazed!
Muttering aloud, he said, “Well, I’ll be! Who’da thunk that thang coulda had a colt?”
God of the universe, thank you for giving people the ability to discover more and more of the wondrous things you have in store for us in the future. We know that all these good gifts come from you. Help us to use them in ways that glorify and please you. Amen.
