Waging War
Waging War
If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
Romans 8:31
I recently waged war against one of my toughest opponents—a megaweed! My opponent stood three feet tall, with thorns like fangs. As I dug around the base to loosen the roots, the weed stood with its leaves crossed, unwilling to budge. I became convinced this weed was attached to the gates of hell.
Once I realized the digging was getting me nowhere, I dropped the shovel, blew the hair out of my eyes, and used a new strategy—pull like crazy! I put all my best moves on that weed as I imagined it saying, “Is that all you’ve got?” Our game of tug-of-war seemed to last forever.
After twisting and pulling, prying and straining, I found myself losing traction and landing flat on my bottom with a thump. I could practically hear the mega weed and all its little weed friends laughing at me.
I sat for a moment, not sure what felt worse—my sore body or my broken spirit. I cried out to God, “Lord, can you please help me here? I can’t do this on my own.” A few minutes later, I felt a renewed energy and restored confidence. I was taking this weed down! I repeatedly thrust my shovel as hard as I could deep into the soil until all the roots were uncovered. I pretended the weed gave a defeated cry as I grabbed its tangled roots and pulled it out of the ground. There I stood, holding the weed over my head in triumph as I let out a victory yell.
No battle is too large or too small for God to help us.

Heavenly Father, thank you for hearing me when I cry out to you. Please help me to remember that you’re on my side and can equip me for any battle I face. Thank you for the victory you have already claimed for me. Amen.
