Name That Wife

Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.”

My husband has a variety of pet names for me. I don’t know how he comes up with these names (too much caffeine must have something to do with it), but it can become a little embarrassing when he’s introducing me to his business associates.

“Captain Buchanan, I’d like you to meet my wife, Honey Biscuit.”

“Reverend Salsota, this is my wife, Love Bumps.”

“Sugar Bear, this is Congresswoman Stafford. Congresswoman Stafford, this is Sugar Bear.”

It would not be so bad, but that is how he fills out my name tags too.

Still, pet names can add a little fun to your marriage. They are something that you, and only you, call your spouse. (Although, an insurance salesman called our house the other day asking to speak with Love Bumps.)

Pet names are an endearing expression of love. Sure, they can sometimes be embarrassing, but when I think about all the names some husbands call their wives, and vice versa, Honey Biscuit doesn’t sound all that bad.

But now, Passion Petunia? You just have to draw the line somewhere!

O Lord, we praise your wonderful name—the name above all others, and the one we love. It is the name by which we come to the Father, and it is the only name by which we can be saved. Thank you for allowing us to wear it, Lord. It is such an incredible honor and a privilege. Amen.
