Moving Day

Moving Day

He led me to a place of safety;he rescued me because he delights in me.

Psalm 18:19

Moving day arrived for my housemates and me. Besides the three of us, my mom also volunteered to help. We started out strong in the early morning, but by the middle of the afternoon, we were dragging as we moved boxes in anticipation of the movers handling the major furniture pieces.

My mom was a real trouper and was working as hard as the rest of us, only she did not know where things needed to go. And apparently neither of my housemates could answer her questions, because every time I turned around, I heard, “Stevie, where does this go?”

“Stevie, is this right?”

“Stevie, can you help me?”

“Stevie, should this go in this car?”

“Stevie, show me how this goes.”

“Stevie,” “Stevie,” “Stevie,” “Stevie.” I grew to hate my name.

All of us were tired, because it had been a long day, and my name was hanging heavy and often in the air. I rolled my eyes and escaped to the truck with another load. I sat down in the driver’s seat to take a break, and at the point of screaming, I gripped the steering wheel.

Dear, dear God, you know I love my mother with all my heart. And I know that someday I am going to want to hear her call my name just one more time. However, today is not that day. If ever a prayer needed to be answered quickly, Lord, this is it. Please give me the wisdom and patience to make it through this day. Amen.

And he did!

—Stevie Stevens

Father, I love the fact that you delight in me. Thank you for rescuing me from the little irritations in my life, and thank you for never tiring of hearing me call your name. I love you with all my heart, Lord. Amen.
