In My View
In My View
Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all the springs of water.
Revelation 14:7
California is one of my favorite places to travel. The Pacific Ocean is breathtaking, and the vibrant multicolored flowers are astonishing. I love to sit by the ocean and listen to the waves slap . . . slap . . . slap against the shore. You could put me by the ocean with my laptop, and I think I could become Book-of-the-Month Club all by myself—it is such an inspirational scene and sound for me. My soul feels centered and calm by the water.
Groucho Marx, who lived in California, once tried his best to avoid a pesky real estate agent who wanted to show him a palatial oceanfront estate that was for sale. Groucho did not want to go, but he finally gave in and agreed to view the property.
The salesman drove the comedian up the mile-long, beautifully landscaped drive and then escorted him through the house, the stables, the gardens, and the kennels. The entire time he was babbling on about the wonders of this dream palace by the sea.
Groucho patiently plodded after him, nodding gravely, apparently much impressed. Finally he was ushered onto the flagstone terrace, and the confident salesman waved proudly toward the broad expanse of the great Pacific.
“Now what do you think?” he challenged.
“I don’t care for it,” replied Groucho thoughtfully, and he waved in turn at the view. “Take away the ocean, and what have you got?”
I imagine that heaven will be by an ocean. I will sit on the shore for all eternity with my notebook, quiet music playing in the background, writing poems and songs in praise of the glorious Father. My soul will surely be at peace forever.
Heavenly Father, I humbly bow in worship to you for your majesty, your holiness, and your omnipotence. It will be my joy to be in your presence for eternity, and I thank you for making it possible. Amen.
