I Proved It!

The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

2 Chronicles 16:9

I didn’t mean to raise my children with lies. It just kind of happened that way. Here are some of the accidental lies I told. You may be familiar with some of these from your childhood as well.

“If you don’t clean your ears better, potatoes will grow in them.”

“If you’re not careful, your face will freeze like that.”

“The thunder is the sound of angels bowling. The lightning means they got a strike.”

“If you go to sleep, the car sprouts wings and flies.”

“If you eat all that candy, your teeth will fall out.”

“If you swallow one of those seeds, a watermelon will grow in your stomach.”

“If you tell a lie, your tongue will turn purple and your nose will grow.”

And the ever-famous, “I see everything. I have eyes in the back of my head.”

I’m afraid I feed the lies to my granddaughter, too. One day Gracee rushed into my office, saying, “Grandma, Grandma. I need to show you something.”

“Not right now. I’m busy.”

“Please, Grandma. Just turn around real quick.”

“I can’t turn around right now; I have to finish this.”

“But just look.”

“I will in just a minute.”

Moment of silence.

“Ha!” she exclaimed. “I just proved it!”

I sighed. Finally I turned around.

“You just proved what?”

“I just proved that you don’t have eyes in the back of your head!”
