Hailed In Horror

Hailed in Horror

I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.

Hebrews 8:12

Life is full of embarrassing moments. Once one of the girls in my dorm was halfway across campus when a boy pointed out that she had forgotten to put on a skirt over her slip. She set a new world speed record sprinting back to the dorm!

Then there was the time in high school when I went on a date. We were going to the movies, but first my date took me to the local hamburger drive-in. He asked what I wanted to eat, so I asked for a hamburger and a Coke. He ordered one hamburger and one Coke. Then he sat there and watched me eat it. I was mortified!

A young lady on her way to a business meeting one morning was standing in a crowded New York bus traveling down Fifth Avenue. She was worrying over the age-old problem of whether or not her slip was showing. Unable to see for herself, she asked a small boy standing next to her.

“No, ma’am,” he informed her politely.

When she reached her stop, she alighted and began to move briskly along Fifth Avenue. Then, to her horror, she heard the voice of that little boy, shouting to her as the bus went by, “Hey, lady! Your slip is showing now; it’s showing now!”

We all make mistakes, and embarrassing moments are bound to come. We need to learn to take them in stride, grin and bear them, and cut one another a lot of slack until Jesus calls us home to a better world.

Father in heaven, thank you for your sweet love and forgiveness. How wonderful to be reminded that you will never call to mind the sins you have already forgiven. Help us to live in such a way that we do not embarrass you. Amen.
