Gun-packing Granny
Gun-Packing Granny
Even when I walkthrough the darkest valley,I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.
Psalm 23:4
A woman in her eighties was determined to continue driving. Her family, however, was worried about her slower reflexes. She would go out at night alone, so they were concerned about her safety. They told her about muggings, kidnappings, and carjackings, thinking the scary stories would keep her at home. But they didn’t.
Instead, she went out and bought a gun—a .38 Special. She did not know a thing about handling a gun, but she loaded it and shoved it into her purse. She decided she would use it if someone gave her problems.
As she was walking out of a large department store with her packages during the Christmas season, she saw three guys getting in her car and closing the doors.
This is my moment, she thought. Carefully setting her packages on the trunk of a nearby car, she pulled out her gun, walked up to the car window, and said, “Get away from my car! Get out from behind that steering wheel! You guys, move it or lose it!”
The three surprised guys clambered out of the car and took off running in three different directions.
By that time, a crowd of people had gathered around, and they were staring at her and smiling. She was feeling pretty proud of herself. No carjacker’s going to take my car!
Putting the gun back into her purse, she picked up her packages. Then she got her car keys out of her jacket pocket and walked to her car. When she tried to insert the key into the ignition, she found that it did not fit. It was then she realized that the car she had “protected” was not hers.
Father, thank you for protecting us from our fears and worries, even when they are false. We know you are our Protector and our Provider, and we can rest in that truth. Amen.
