Give It To Him!
Give It to Him!
Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:7
Do you ever wonder why you do not have some of the things you need or want? I think about that sometimes, and I wonder if it is because I just do not ask God for it. After all, Jesus said in Mark 11:24 that we can pray for anything, and if we believe that we have already received it, it will be ours. So sometimes I have to conclude that I have not received something simply because I did not ask for it. Perhaps I am not properly taking advantage of that promise from God.
And that reminds me of the story my friend Marvin Phillips once told as he was getting older.
“When I turned sixty-five, I got an AARP card, a Medicare card, and senior discount cards by the dozen. I can deal them like a poker player—pick a card, any card! I went to the movies in Australia, and they let me in on pensioner rates.
“I remember when I was fifty-eight. We were having breakfast with a few friends. It occurred to me that Denny’s gives senior discounts early, so I asked the cashier, ‘At what age do you give senior discounts?’
“‘I don’t know; I’ll ask,’ she said. Then she yelled at the top of her voice, ‘Larry, at what age do we give senior discounts?’
“A million eyes peered at me. Larry stuck his head out of the kitchen and looked me over. ‘Give it to him!’ he said.”
O Father, help me to remember that you have promised to give us what we ask for in your Son’s name. So please give me the wisdom to grow old gracefully and to accept aging as a blessing from you, not a curse. In Jesus’ name, amen.
