An 8-track Girl In An Ipod World
An 8-Track Girl in an iPod World
May the words of my mouthand the meditation of my heartbe pleasing to you,O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
There I was, playing on the floor with my two-year-old niece, when suddenly she decided to watch the Care Bears movie. As I slowly got up, feeling my age, she picked up a remote control, pushed the buttons, opened the DVD player, put in her movie, and started the television. She turned around, gave me the biggest smile, and sat down in her chair, with her thumb in her mouth and her baby doll in her arms.
As I sat there with a deer-in-the-headlights look, I realized I was stuck in the past. You know, back when Bluetooth happened when you were eating cotton candy at the festival, when SPAM was on your plate at lunchtime, and when you actually had to get off the couch to change the channel. I never did learn how to program my VCR. I knew I was technology challenged, but did I have to be shown up by a two-year-old?
As I watched my niece, so happy that her movie was coming on, I could not help but think of how poor my attitude was toward modern technology. It was time to stop complaining. Is that not what the Israelites did as they wandered around in the desert for forty years? I am already middle aged. I do not have forty years to waste, so I need to change. Besides, what woman these days can wear only one pair of shoes that long?
In Exodus we read that, when the Israelites left Egypt and wandered in the desert, God was displeased with their murmuring. How often do we complain and have a negative attitude that we do not even recognize? Maybe it is time to give ourselves spiritual checkups and check our vital signs for malfunctioning attitudes. We just might find a diagnosis to text to ourselves.

Lord, please help us to keep our attitudes positive and our mouths full of thanksgiving. Amen.
