Am I Driving?
Am I Driving?
Your word is a lamp to guide my feetand a light for my path.
Psalm 119:105
Does your life sometimes seem as if it is out of control? Does it feel as if someone else is in charge and you are just along for the ride? You do not know where you are headed; you do not know when you will get there; and you do not know in what direction you should even be going.
Well, you are not alone. I think a lot of people feel that way at various times in their lives. And I know personally just how you feel.
The story is told that in Cape Coral, Florida, two elderly women were out driving in a large car; both could barely see over the dashboard.
As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The traffic light was red, but they just went on through the light. The woman in the passenger seat thought, I must be losing my mind; I think we just went through a red light.
After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection where the light was red. But again they sailed right through it.
This time Bessie, the passenger, was almost sure the light had been red, but she was really concerned that maybe she was mistaken. She was getting nervous and decided to pay very close attention to the road and the next intersection to see what was going on.
Sure enough, the next light was definitely red, and still they sailed right through. Turning to her friend in the driver’s seat, Bessie said, “Shirley! Did you know we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us!”
Shirley turned to her with a look of surprise and said, “Oh, am I driving?”

Dear Father, thank you for being in charge of my life. Help me to remember that life always works better when I let you do the driving. Amen.
