Still True

Read Proverbs 11

Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.

Proverbs 11:24

Those who would argue against the truth and reliability of the Bible might use this verse (and many others in Proverbs) to support their view because everyone knows of real situations that contradict what the verse seems to say. We can all name people who are greedy and stingy but also have great wealth. And we can name very generous people who live in or on the edge of poverty. Those who approach the Bible with the preconceived notion that it is unreliable deny themselves the greater opportunity to know God and discover the deeper meaning of these truths.

If we believe the Bible contains many historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies, it becomes a meaningless book. Then, if we read it at all, we tend to look for shallow interpretations that support our notion of its fallibility. But if we accept Jesus’ own testimony that the Scriptures are reliable and if we are willing (with the help of the Holy Spirit) to search out its deeper meanings, we will find Scripture to be utterly truthful, consistent, infallible, and very relevant to our personal lives. To understand that truth is to understand true wealth.

Today, Lord, as I read your Word, may I not doubt but expect to find in it the depths of your truth.
