Honor is no more associated with fools than snow with summer or rain with harvest.

Proverbs 26:1

Fools, summer, and harvest represent the givens in this proverb. Each one comes with a set of characteristics or expectations. In summer, we expect heat; at the harvest, cool weather. Snows don’t fit with summer, and rains make a mess out of harvest. Likewise, when it comes to fools, honor is always out of season.

So what are the traits that accompany fools? To use the terms of this proverb, dishonor summarizes a foolish profile. Dishonor describes people who don’t take responsibility for their decisions ahead of time so they can make them carefully, nor do they take responsibility for their mistakes and failures once they occur. Whenever we find ourselves surrounded by thoughtless decisions and excessive blaming, we can safely assume that a crop of fools has sprouted. The last thing we expect to find is honor. And if we expect to be people of honor ourselves, we won’t go with them.
