Read Proverbs 30

The eye that mocks a father and despises a mother’s instructions will be plucked out by ravens of the valley and eaten by vultures.

Proverbs 30:17

Respect. Honor. Talk to any teacher or parent today and you’ll hear how much they struggle with kids who don’t have any respect for their elders. Note how children dishonor their parents. It’s a growing problem, and one that we can’t ignore.

Lack of respect is at the heart of mockery; you don’t mock someone whom you respect. People who have become Christians should have a deep understanding of respect. Before we met Christ, we mocked God with our rebellious hearts and lives. We disrespected and dishonored God. We were convinced that our way was better than his, but the end result of such a life is death, with no hope for eternal life. Repentance and salvation changed that.

Our relationship with our parents should reflect our relationship with God. We are bound by respect for God to honor them.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Parental disrespect yields unexpected troubles.

Today, Lord, I thank you for my parents and all that they have taught me. I pray that you would bless them and keep them safe.
