Overlooking The Obvious

Read Proverbs 10

People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray.

Proverbs 10:17

Correction is a blessing; constructive criticism is a gift. However, no one looks forward to receiving either one! The Bible concedes that discipline is not enjoyable, but it is necessary for our growth.

We can consider it this way: Suppose a fellow driver points out that we have a flat tire. How ridiculous it would be for us to get mad at the person who pointed out the flat. If we continued driving with our flat tire, we would then become a hazard for others on the road, as well as causing damage to our car.

Those who refuse to be corrected allow pride and insecurity to take the wheel. They are a road hazard on the pathway to peace. It’s best that we stay out of their way. In contrast, the person who responds to discipline is able to enter the roadway again—better equipped for the future.

Correction is a needed traffic sign.

Today, Lord, open the parts of me that I have closed off to correction. May your discipline bring me up to speed on the pathway of life.
