Limited Free Will - The One Year Daily Wisdom

Read Proverbs 21

No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the LORD.

Proverbs 21:30

Human will empowers us to accomplish great good or great evil. An individual or group can plan an act of terrorism that shocks the world. Meanwhile, other individuals can choose to act with such selfless abandon that the world cries with wonder and honor. Are we to conclude from such events that the world is on its own, that humanity’s plans succeed or fail by chance or brilliance without God’s interference?

As horrific as some acts seem, do they not create an impression of how bad things might become if all limits and all checks on human will were removed? The answer to the question, “If God loves and is all powerful, why doesn’t he stop people from doing evil?” must be that God does love and is all powerful and stops acts of evil all the time. Every day. We can’t see most of his work, except when he foils some evil plan.

We are eager to question God when evil breaks out but reluctant to praise God when good is done. Given the evidence from Scripture and history, is it not more amazing that good is ever done than that some people succeed in expressing their sinful character?

Beyond strategy is God’s sovereignty.

Today, Lord, help me to be aware of your watchfulness over the world. Help me to always submit my plans and intentions to you.
