Read Proverbs 26

There is more hope for fools than for people who think they are wise.

Proverbs 26:12

Throughout history, people have made huge blunders by believing what they thought to be the right answer. Just look at the thousands of years that people believed the earth was flat. It didn’t matter how much they believed they were right; they were still wrong!

For this reason, we should always be willing to examine what we hear, and especially what we believe. The people of Berea understood this principle (Acts 17:10-12). They made sure everything Paul preached to them could be found in the Scriptures. We would be wise to follow their example.

If we think we are too smart to make a mistake, we inevitably will do just that! We must continue to humbly scrutinize our beliefs against the Word of God. God will honor us more for admitting when we are wrong than for claiming that we know everything.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Wisdom doesn’t boast.

Lord, give me the humility to inspect my beliefs and continue to search for your truth.
