God’s Feast

God’s Feast

Read Proverbs 1

They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.

Proverbs 1:30-31

God does not leave us to fend for ourselves. He gives us corrective advice that will sustain us through life. Ironically, while we desire to eat the choicest fare, we often choose our own fruit—and have to experience its bitter taste in our mouths.

It seems ridiculous that a mere human would disregard God’s all-knowing, loving guidance. Our arrogance leaves us confused and lost. The dangerous outcome is separation from God as we “eat the bitter fruit of living [our] own way.”

God, however, offers his help even when we choke on sin. His words point out our shortcomings, so we know not to live that way anymore. He promises us the nourishment of his food if we follow his ways. While we don’t deserve his feast, he nonetheless offers it to us if we choose to accept it.

A WORD FOR TODAY

God’s Word is the sustenance of life.

Today, Lord, help me to listen to your advice. When I struggle to heed your Word, help me to trust in you so that I will not choke.
