Godly Possibilities

Read Proverbs 17

[Jesus] replied, “What is impossible for people is possible with God.”

Luke 18:27

He had seemed so earnest and eager for the truth. The rich, religious leader had genuinely wanted to know how to get eternal life. But when Jesus gave him the truth about salvation, he could not accept it. His earthly wealth meant more to him than heavenly treasure and Jesus’ call to discipleship—and the Savior knew it. It was not the wealth itself that kept the man from salvation; it was his dependence on it.

The disciples, and we who read this story, heard from Jesus that because of this dependence it would be extremely difficult for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God. They wondered aloud if anybody could therefore be saved. Jesus replied with one of the most powerful statements in the Bible—with God, the impossible becomes possible. Anybody’s dependence on wealth—measured in money, fame, friends or family, possessions, intelligence, giftedness, or any other currency—must be set aside in order to receive God’s gift of salvation. The offer still stands today.

God loves to accomplish impossibilities.

Today, Lord, I thank you for the riches of salvation that you offer. I accept the treasure in heaven that you promise.
