Get Rich Quick?
Get Rich Quick?
Read Proverbs 12
A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense.
Proverbs 12:11
Item 1: Billions of dollars are spent each year on legalized gambling, even though it has been proven that one is more likely to get hit by lightning than to ever hit the jackpot.
Item 2: Exercise and diet products that promise big results in exchange for minimal effort are flying off the shelves.
Item 3: Over the last ten years, more people than ever have poured more money than ever into get-rich-quick schemes.
What’s going on? The answer is simple: People want “something for nothing” (or, more accurately, “lots for very little”). Forget the notion of long-term discipline and slow, steady progress. Nothing less than instant, spectacular results will do.
God’s Word offers an opposing view. We are urged to reject the frantic pursuit of get-rich-quick fantasies. The true secret of success (financial, physical, or spiritual) is hard work spread out over a long time. Diligent effort, not wishful thinking, is the way to prosperity.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Work is really the shorter route to riches.
Today, Lord, keep me from believing the lie that I can prosper without hard work. Help me to be diligent and to think long term, not short term.
