Read Proverbs 14

A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

Proverbs 14:1

In Proverbs 12:4 we read how a woman can build up or destroy her husband by her actions and words; the same holds true for her household. Like it or not, the woman of the house—the wife and/or mom—has a huge influence over her family. She literally has the power to build or tear down her home with her own hands.

How does a wise woman “build” her home? Consider other proverbs to get a bigger picture. She cares for her husband and family (31:27); she has discretion (11:22); she builds up with her words and is not quarrelsome (19:13; 21:19); she is understanding (19:14); she is a great treasure (18:22). She is trustworthy, and so is capable of enriching her husband’s and children’s lives (31:10-12). The opposite characteristics would obviously “tear down” a woman’s home. Women have great influence and the responsibility from God to live wisely.

Women are homebuilders.

Today, Lord, help me to take the steps needed to “build” my home into the place you want it to be.
