Read Proverbs 14

There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

Proverbs 14:12

Many people live in sin, never sensing that they are doing anything wrong. They are doing what pleases them, so it must be right, they reason.

In his letter to the Romans, Paul wrote, “When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do what was right. And what was the result? You now are ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom” (Romans 6:20-21). Just because people “feel good” about what they are doing doesn’t necessarily make it right. No matter how it “seems,” it may be a pathway only to death.

So what is the right path—the one that doesn’t end in death? It is the path we get on when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. We follow that path as we serve him in the world. On that path, we are truly set free to “do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life” (Romans 6:22).

A WORD FOR TODAY

You can walk in any direction, but only one leads to life.

Lord, walk with me. Help me to take steps in my life not because they “seem” right, but because I have sought your guidance and am walking closely with you.
