A Verbal Flood
A Verbal Flood
Read Proverbs 10
Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.
Proverbs 10:19
Sometimes, we just like the sound of our own voices. We may be tired, excited, or angry; but we need to tell someone what’s on our mind. Yet how often in the midst of those talkative times do we say something that we later regret? Whether it’s a juicy bit of gossip or a rash comeback, our intemperate tongues can bring upon us a multitude of troubles.
That’s why God counsels us to guard our words. “Too much talk,” says this proverb, “leads to sin.” The wise observation has to do with percentages; the more we talk the greater the chance we will say something we regret. Silence allows us to not only avoid error but provides added time to consider what we are going to say before we actually say it!
A WORD FOR TODAY
Wise silence is golden.
Today, Lord, help me to speak in ways that honor you. Help me to be silent when that honors you as well.
