A Crooked Path

Read Proverbs 5

Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. For she cares nothing about the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t realize it.

Proverbs 5:5-6

The immoral woman is a person who has turned from godly paths toward pleasure, passion, and lust. How apt is this chapter for today, for we don’t need to go much farther than the local newsstand or a few clicks on the Internet to find plenty of immoral women and men. The Bible is clear that to follow these people’s ways is a path to death, footsteps to destruction. And so many people are tempted onto that path—some who should know better, many who don’t.

God created sex within the confines of marriage to be intimate and beautiful. Satan knew what he was doing when he made illicit sex so exciting. But against the “no one gets hurt” thinking stand millions of broken families, diseased bodies, and lonely people. Immorality is a path to death. Believers who have been tempted onto the path need to consider the consequences and turn around before it is too late.

A WORD FOR TODAY

Immorality dulls awareness.

Today, Lord, help me to be strong against temptation to immorality. Help me to run from temptation, and guide me in your paths.
