Trusting In God’s Protection

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!

I look to you for protection.

I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings

until the danger passes by.

I cry out to God Most High,

to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.

He will send help from heaven to rescue me,

disgracing those who hound me.

My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.

Psalm 57:1-3

David was in hiding. Saul’s pursuit had driven him into a desert cave. But David knew that his hope didn’t rest in how fast he could run or how creatively he could hide. Protection came from God. The darkness of a cave could not protect him as well as the shadow of God’s wings. David placed his trust in God alone for his safety.

What have the dangers of life taught you about God’s faithfulness? Are you confident, as David was, that God “will fulfill his purpose” for you? Rest in the protection God offers under his wings and trust his direction for your life.
