Resting In The Eternal God

Resting in the Eternal God

Lord, through all the generations

you have been our home!

Before the mountains were born,

before you gave birth to the earth and the world,

from beginning to end, you are God.

You turn people back to dust, saying,

“Return to dust, you mortals!”

For you, a thousand years are as a passing day,

as brief as a few night hours.

You sweep people away like dreams that disappear.

They are like grass that springs up in the morning.

Psalm 90:1-5

Where has all the time gone? we often wonder as the minutes, hours, days, and years slip by. We never have enough time to accomplish all that we desire to do. Moses pondered the brevity of life in the oldest prayer in the book of Psalms. Yet, he praised God: “For you, a thousand years are as a passing day!” God is not constrained by time, unlike ourselves. He is never rushed or exasperated by it, nor does he have a beginning or an end, for he is the Creator of time itself.

When you become painfully aware of your own limitations, seek peace in the Lord. Give all your moments over to God’s care, and let him give eternal significance to all your daily efforts.

  • Eternal God, I know that a thousand years are like a day to you . . .
