Praising God For His Protection

I look up to the mountains—

does my help come from there?

My help comes from the LORD,

who made heaven and earth!

He will not let you stumble;

the one who watches over you will not slumber.

Indeed, he who watches over Israel

never slumbers or sleeps.

The LORD himself watches over you!

The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade.

Psalm 121:1-5

The role of security guards is important for protecting buildings from intruders. If guards do not pay attention to their surroundings, they could allow an intruder to sneak in undetected. In the same way, the psalmist describes the Lord as one who “never slumbers or sleeps.” He stands beside us to make sure we don’t stumble. Our God is always paying attention and will be our “protective shade” day in and day out. The psalmist knew that the Lord was able to keep him safe, for the Lord “made heaven and earth!”

In your prayer time, remember that God—the one who never slumbers or sleeps—is watching over you.
