Fleeing To God In Distress

As for me, I will sing about your power.

Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.

For you have been my refuge,

a place of safety when I am in distress.

O my Strength, to you I sing praises,

for you, O God, are my refuge,

the God who shows me unfailing love.

Psalm 59:16-17

Human love can be both a source of great joy and a source of great pain—especially when someone’s love is fickle and fallible. God’s love, in contrast, is unfailing! David wrote one of his great songs for worship on this theme. He sang the praises of God’s power as well as his love. Because of who God is, he is a safe haven for us when we are in distress. For this psalm, David’s distress was when King Saul sent men to wait outside his home to kill him. On that day, David called out to God and learned that he was his “strength.” David praised the Lord for showing him unfailing love.

When you are in distress, find your strength and your hiding place in the God who loves you unfailingly.
