A Prayer To The Unchanging God

LORD, you remain the same forever!

Your throne continues from generation to generation.

Why do you continue to forget us?

Why have you abandoned us for so long?

Restore us, O LORD, and bring us back to you again!

Give us back the joys we once had!

Lamentations 5:19-21

Jeremiah possessed one unshakable conviction: God doesn’t change. Our faithfulness and our feelings are as fleeting as a breeze, but God remains the same. We wander away; God brings us back. We surrender our joy; God renews it. Though Jeremiah was praying for his people, his words can help us put our own lives into perspective. The eternal God is in control, and he is able to raise us up when we fall.

Acknowledging our complete dependence upon God in our prayers should be one of the first steps we take in prayer, for it’s on that basis that we keep coming to him with our humble requests. God remains forever the same; we are the ones who have wandered from him. Today, take time to praise the Lord for his unchanging character.
