A Cry For God To Hurry

Please, God, rescue me!

Come quickly, LORD, and help me. . . .

But may all who search for you

be filled with joy and gladness in you.

May those who love your salvation

repeatedly shout, “God is great!”

But as for me, I am poor and needy;

please hurry to my aid, O God.

You are my helper and my savior;

O LORD, do not delay.

Psalm 70:1, 4-5

Have you ever, like David, asked God to hurry? In this prayer, David asked God to defend him against his enemies. He asked that he might be given the opportunity once again to praise the Lord for his deliverance. Then he seemed to remember his desperation once again, and he prayed, “I am poor and needy; please hurry to my aid, O God.”

There will be times when you feel desperate and cry out to God for help. You may even remind yourself of God’s faithfulness to you—and then panic! At those times, however, remember that you aren’t alone. Faithful people of God have felt that kind of desperation in the past. But God will not turn a deaf ear to you. He will give you all that you need.
