Your Mount Everest

Your Mount Everest

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

Psalm 46:1

THE MAN WAS AN ADVENTURER who had been all over the world. Although he attempted to climb Mount Everest on three separate occasions, he had made it to the top only once. By far, it was the most difficult obstacle he had ever faced. During his most recent time on the mountain, he nearly died of high-altitude sickness.

He would later say that we all have a personal Mount Everest to conquer, and he is absolutely right. You certainly don’t have to travel halfway around the world to find what would appear to be an almost insurmountable obstacle in your life. Whatever it may be—finances, health, issues with family or friends—life isn’t always easy.

The list of equipment needed to climb Mount Everest is long and quite expensive. Appropriate warm clothing is an obvious must, in addition to food, supplemental oxygen, ice picks, ropes, and so forth. Most of the time, there’s a Sherpa guide to help lug everything up the mountain and back down again.

When a Mount Everest pops up in your own life, however, you don’t need any of that stuff. How you deal with the hardest moments in your life means everything. If you try working it out on your own, chances are that it will only get worse. You need Jesus and the promises of His Word. Faith really does conquer the world (1 John 5:4).

BOTTOM LINE

We all face what seem to be insurmountable obstacles. Praise God right now for seeing you through the trials you face.
