Worth Remembering
O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.
Psalm 40:5
WANT TO BOOST YOUR FAITH? Want to see God better and thereby see everything else better, including your current situation? Try this. Go back to the beginning of your walk with God and write down all the key times when you can remember His activity in your life. Make an extended journal entry of His faithfulness to you in your life. Recall how many times and ways He delivered you when it seemed that deliverance was an impossibility. You may discover yourself resonating with some lyrics in the famous hymn “Amazing Grace”:
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
Recalling God’s faithfulness to you during your life can be an enormously helpful faith-building exercise. Perhaps you’re one of those people who periodically goes back and reads past journal entries in order to see God’s hand in answered prayers and providential happenings. But even if you’re not, there’s another way to boost your faith that’s just as powerful, if not more so. It’s reading the Bible! Romans 15:4 says: “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.” And Hebrews 11, of course, gives us the “hall of faith,” which is all about God’s faithfulness.
BOTTOM LINE
We need to remember God’s faithfulness to us. Look for God’s activity in your own life and in the lives of other saints, past and present.
