Withering Flowers

Withering Flowers

The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.

Isaiah 40:8, HCSB

WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT? A bright, shiny sports car that looks better than it runs, or a reliable, but not at all flashy, car that gets you from Point A to Point B, day in and day out, without fail? Would you choose a huge mansion, or a comfortable house where you and your family can relax without a monster mortgage hanging over your heads? A lot of flashy jewelry, or a simple wedding band? The latest and greatest smartphone or electronic gadget, or ones that are functional?

There are all kinds of choices to be made every day, and each one says something about who we are as men. Are we focusing on bringing attention to our socioeconomic status, or are we focusing on providing for our families?

We all are probably guilty of focusing on the wrong things to some extent, but chasing things that really and truly don’t matter isn’t the pathway to peace and contentment in life. There’s always going to be another bauble to catch our attention. There’s always going to be a technology upgrade. In the end, however, the most important question to ask is a fairly simple one: Is God impressed?

In the Bible, God assures us again and again that He can take care of us. We can trust Him. That doesn’t mean we’re all going to be chauffeured around in Bentleys. The key is learning to be content with what He does provide!

BOTTOM LINE

Take a good look at your priorities in life. Are they things that one day will wither away, or are they Kingdom focused?
