When Does Worship Start?

I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.

Psalm 34:1

WHEN DOES WORSHIP START? At 11 a.m. on Sunday morning? Or maybe it’s 10:45? Or does worship start on Saturday nights at 6:00? The truth is, worship encompasses all of life. It’s as much a Monday thing as a Sunday thing. We may gather to worship corporately as a church at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays, but we have been worshiping all week. It’s just that we may not always be giving our worship to the Lord.

Worship is God’s top priority. He is passionate about His glory. The first of the Ten Commandments reminds us that God is to be glorified above all other gods (Exodus 20:3). For King David, worship was a well-established routine. Not only was God’s praise continually on his lips, but in Psalm 145:2, he writes, “I will praise you every day.”

As men, how can we make worship a constant in our lives? One way is to bring a daily sacrifice of praise to the Lord. As you read Scripture, look for a name or characteristic of God that you can praise Him for. For example, in John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” That single verse has enough in it to ponder for weeks. If you read Scripture carefully and expectantly, you’ll be surprised by how rich and full your personal worship will become and how it will influence your thoughts throughout your day.

BOTTOM LINE

May your worship of God never come to an end. It’s meant to be a moment-by-moment experience.
