The Good Father: Part 2

God never said to any angel what he said to Jesus: “You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.”

Hebrews 1:5

GOD THE FATHER IS utterly devoted to His Son, Jesus. At Christ’s transfiguration, the Father declared His “delight” in His Son and commanded His followers to “listen to Him” (Matthew 17:5, HCSB). The Father “highly exalted Him” (Philippians 2:9, HCSB). He commanded the angels to “worship Him” (Hebrews 1:6, HCSB).

The Father’s commitment to glorify the Son is mind-blowingly beautiful, powerful, and deep.

Even more astounding is the Father’s commitment to bring “many children to glory” (Hebrews 2:10). The way God loves and fathers Jesus is the exact same way He loves and fathers you.

• He is a forgiving Father. Even if you’ve failed Him and pushed Him away and sinned against Him again and again, your Father eagerly waits for you to come home. Through Christ, He has thrown all your sins behind His back (Isaiah 38:17).
• He is an attentive Father. He is fully aware of all your needs. Your Father notices your smiles, your frowns, your hopes, and your dreams. He provides all you need (Matthew 7:11).
• He is a satisfied Father. Some men never receive their earthly father’s blessing. They work unceasingly for his approval. God isn’t like that. If you’re His child, He finds nothing to condemn in you (Romans 8:1) and declares you blameless (Jude 1:24). You can rest in His acceptance and love.

BOTTOM LINE

It is time to disentangle your thoughts of God from the imperfections of your earthly father and to recognize Him as the Dad you’ve always longed for.
